For my final project, I wanted to show the truth about what we post on social media as well as the way different posts are between each social media type. In order to be able to critique the best, I have decided to use my own social medias as the muse. This way I can fully critique what I show (and do not show) on social media.

This project will involve 4 different social media sites: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tik Tok. First off I will show you the top of each account- which will include my bio and beginning posts:

This is my Twitter page: As you can see, I used the beach sky as the banner on the top. Then I used a picture of me in the city as profile picture. Note my bio. My graduation year, major, I give a not-so-serious quote to get someone to laugh, and finally the number for the crisis line I work for. The last thing I want you to note is that I have 96 followers.

Next one is my Instagram. As you can see, I use the same profile picture. My full name is on this profile. So is my graduation year and major. Finally its a different quote that tells a little more about me. As you can see I also used a gofundme link that is for me for medical treatment. Finally notice how many followers I have: 463.

Third is my Facebook. I have a picture taken during my foundation event as the banner and then the same city photo for my profile picture. This also uses my whole name. It shows that I go to UMW and I am the founder and president of my foundation. Friends are not shown here and as you can see its brighter and more family-friendly.

Lastly is my Tik Tok. I was debating on showing this one, however I figured it would be best to take a look at All my social medias. My first name is all that is shown. Again, I’m using the same profile picture as I did for every other social media. I have 2,470 followers for this one as well as 6,095 likes. It shows me the most in every day outfits and also shows what I do every day. Overall, it is more personal and clearly meant for friends as opposed to family. Note that this is the one I’m most popular on.

Overall, you can see how I present myself differently depending on the type of media. Below is a list of what I categorize each media used as.

Tik Tok- friends and people I don’t know

Facebook- Family and past adults in my life (teachers, coworkers, etc).

Instagram- Friends and people from my past high school or just throughout my life who were once my friends.

Twitter- Honestly anyone. It is just a place for me to rant and I don’t care if anyone sees or likes it.

This was such an interesting experiment type thing to do with the internet. We change everything about how we are portrayed depending on who we know is watching/reading. I always thought I wasn’t someone who did that, but I’m realizing that I totally do. I change how I talk, how I’m dressed, what I’m doing all depending on the media. If I have something I want to get in the world, I decide which profile to put it on. Beyond crazy and mind blowing. Do you do this?
